Shark ZU880 Series Troubleshooting

If you are having problems with your Shark ZU880 Series Vacuum Cleaner, you are not alone. Many Shark ZU880 Series owners experience issues with their vacuum cleaner from time to time, and it can be frustrating to deal with these problems.

I have problems with my Shark ZU880 Series

Shark ZU880 Series Vacuum Cleaner Problems

Below are common issues and solutions for the Shark ZU880 Series:

The Shark ZU880 Series is not picking up debris. No suction or light suction

Solution:

  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and air-drying the filters before reinserting in the vacuum.
  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check hose, hose connections, nozzle, wand, pod, and accessories for blockages. Clear any blockages found.
  • If any hair, string, or carpet fibers are wrapped around the brush roll, extend the cleaning time to allow Zero-M® technology to remove it.
    • If some hair or fibers remain wrapped around the brush roll after continued use, remove the brush roll garage lid carefully cut debris with scissors, and remove it from the brush roll. See Cleaning the Brushroll section for more information.

The Shark ZU880 Series lifts area rugs

Solution:

  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brushrolls. Be sure to select the Thick Carpet/Area Rug set.
  • Suction is powerful. Take care when vacuuming area rugs or rugs with delicately sewn edges

The Shark ZU880 Series Brushrolls do not spin.

Solution:

  • If the Brushroll Indicator Light turns red, immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum. Remove the pod from the floor nozzle and clear any blockages. Reconnect the nozzle, plug in the vacuum, and turn on the power.
  • With the power on, recline the handle, which will automatically turn on the brushrolls.
  • Ensure that the surface selector switch is set to Carpet for brushrolls to spin.

The Shark ZU880 Series turns off on its own or the indicator light flashes red

Solution:

  • This vacuum is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the suction motor off. Perform the following steps to restart the thermostat:
    1. Turn the vacuum off and unplug it.
    2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters (see Emptying the Dust Cup and Cleaning the Filters).
    3. Check for blockages in the hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
    4. Allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes.
    5. Plug in a vacuum and turn it on

The Shark ZU880 Series Headlights flashing and the indicator light is not green

Solution:

  • Check to make sure brush roll garage lid is inserted and locked properly
