Shark NV770 Series Troubleshooting

What issue are you encountering?

Solution:

  • My vacuum has no or low suction
    • Plug in and turn on the vacuum.
  • My unit will not turn on or turn off on its own.
    • The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If for some reason your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Wait 60 minutes for the vacuum to cool; in the meantime follow the steps below.
  • The brush roll is not spinning
    • Ensure the unit is plugged in and is in setting II, Carpet mode. Step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle to engage the brush roll. Check the headlight indicator lights.
  • My vacuum is making an unusual noise
    • Turn off and unplug the unit.
    • Remove the dust cup by pulling up on the Dust Cup Release the Latch on the handle and lift the dust cup off the pod.
    • Holding the dust cup over a trash receptacle and press the empty-release latch on the bottom to empty dust and debris into the trash. Close the bottom lid.
    • Press the top empty release latch to access the dust screen and remove built-up debris as necessary.
    • Plug in the unit and turn it on without the dust cup on
  • There is a burning smell
    • If the smell is an out-of-the-box unit, This may be a new motor smell for the first couple of uses.
    • Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Inspect the power cord and plug for exposed wires, burns, or apparent damage.
  • The soft roller is not spinning
    • Turn off and unplug the vacuum.
    • Manually spin the main brush roll.
  • The wheels are squeaking
    • Turn off and unplug the vacuum.
    • Disconnect the nozzle by using the “Floor Nozzle” release button to remove the main body from the nozzle.
    • Place the nozzle so that the bottom is visible, and inspect the (small) front wheels. Manually rotate the small wheels.
  • The garage door is hard to open
    • Using the crevice tool or applicable accessory, you can vacuum the buttons and the area at the top of the nozzle cover (with the nozzle cover removed).
    • Pushing the “Access Brush Roll” Slider buttons several times when the door is removed may improve their performance. Perform this several times.

Shark NV770 Series Vacuum Cleaner Problems

Below are common issues and solutions for the Shark NV770 Series:

The Shark NV770 Series is not picking up debris. No suction or light suction.

Solution:

  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and drying the filters before re-inserting in the vacuum.
  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check hose, hose connections, nozzle, and accessories for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Remove any string, carpet fibers, or hair that may be wrapped around the brush roll.

The Shark NV770 Series lifts scatter rugs

Solution:

  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brush roll. Slide the Power/Surface Selector to the Hard Floor setting to clean with the brush roll-off
  • Suction is powerful. Take care when vacuuming area rugs or rugs with delicately sewn edges.
  • To minimize suction, slide the suction control valve to MIN

The Shark NV770 Series Brushroll and/or Soft Roller does not spin or the Brushroll Indicator Light turns red.

Solution:

  • If the Brushroll Indicator Light on the floor nozzle turns red, the brush roll and/or Soft Roller have stopped spinning. Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum. Check hose, hose connections, nozzle, and accessories for blockages. Clear any blockages, then plug in the vacuum and press Power/Surface Selector.
  • If the Brushroll Indicator Light on the floor nozzle is green, the blockage has been successfully cleared. If the light is still red, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398.
  • If nozzle headlights are flashing, this means the brush roll garage is not completely closed. Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Ensure the brush roll garage is locked by inserting the tabs on the lid into the slots, then pressing down on both sides of the lid until it clicks into place.
  • With the power on, recline the handle, which will automatically turn on the brush rolls

The Shark NV770 Series Brushroll Garage will not close

Solution:

  • Make sure the Soft Roller was reinserted correctly and press down firmly on both sides of the garage lid until it clicks into place

The Shark NV770 Series turns off on its own or the indicator light flashes red

Solution:

  • This vacuum is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the suction motor off. Perform the following steps to restart the thermostat:
    1. Turn the vacuum off and unplug it.
    2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters (see Maintenance section).
    3. Check for blockages in the hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
    4. Allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes.
    5. Plug in the vacuum and turn it on.
    6. Restart the unit in either the Hard Floor or Carpet setting.
