Shark NV600 Series Troubleshooting

If you are having problems with your Shark NV600 Series Vacuum Cleaner, you are not alone. Many Shark NV600 Series owners experience issues with their vacuum cleaner from time to time, and it can be frustrating to deal with these problems.

What issue are you encountering?

Solution:

  • My vacuum has no or low suction
    • Plug in and turn on the vacuum.
  • My unit will not turn on or turn off on its own.
    • The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If for some reason your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Wait 60 minutes for the vacuum to cool; in the meantime follow the steps below.
  • The brush roll is not spinning
    • Ensure the unit is plugged in and is in setting II, Carpet mode. Step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle to engage the brush roll. Check the headlight indicator lights.
  • My vacuum is making an unusual noise
    • Turn off and unplug the unit.
    • Remove the dust cup by pulling up on the Dust Cup Release the Latch on the handle and lift the dust cup off the pod.
    • Holding the dust cup over a trash receptacle and press the empty-release latch on the bottom to empty dust and debris into the trash. Close the bottom lid.
    • Press the top empty release latch to access the dust screen and remove built-up debris as necessary.
    • Plug in the unit and turn it on without the dust cup on
  • There is a burning smell
    • If the smell is an out-of-the-box unit, This may be a new motor smell for the first couple of uses.
    • Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Inspect the power cord and plug for exposed wires, burns, or apparent damage.

Shark NV600 Series Vacuum Cleaner Problems

Below are common issues and solutions for the Shark NV600 Series:

The Shark NV600 Series is not picking up debris. No suction or light suction.

Solution:

  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and drying the filters before re-inserting in the vacuum.
  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check hose, hose connections, nozzle, and accessories for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Remove any string, carpet fibers, or hair that may be wrapped around the brush roll.

The Shark NV600 Series lifts scatter rugs

Solution:

  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brush roll. Slide the Power/Surface Selector to the Hard Floor setting to clean with the brush roll off
  • Suction is powerful. Take care when vacuuming area rugs or rugs with delicately sewn edges.
  • To minimize suction, slide the suction control valve to MIN

The Shark NV600 Series Brushroll does not spin

Solution:

  • If the Brushroll Indicator Light on the floor nozzle turns red, the brush roll has stopped spinning. Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum and remove the blockage before reconnecting and turning the vacuum back on.
  • With the power on, recline the handle, which will automatically turn on the brush roll.

The Shark NV600 Series Brushroll Garage will not close

Solution:

  • Make sure the brush roll was reinserted correctly with the word “PULL” on the endcap facing up

The Shark NV600 Series turns off on its own or the indicator light flashes red

Solution:

  • This vacuum is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the suction motor off. Perform the following steps to restart the thermostat:
    1. Turn vacuum off and unplug it.
    2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters (see Maintenance section).
    3. Check for blockages in the hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
    4. Allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes.
    5. Plug in the vacuum and turn it on.
    6. Restart the unit in either the Hard Floor or Carpet setting.
