Shark NV581 Series Vacuum Cleaner Problems

The Shark NV581 Series is not picking up debris. No suction or light suction

Solution:

  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow the instructions for rinsing and drying the filters before reinserting in the vacuum.
  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check hose, connections, wand, nozzle, and accessories for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Remove any string, carpet fibers, or hair that may be wrapped around the brush rolls

The Shark NV581 Series lifts area rugs

Solution:

  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brush roll. Move the switch to the Hard Floor setting for suction-only cleaning, and turn the unit back on.
  • Suction is powerful. Take care when vacuuming area rugs or rugs with delicately sewn edges.
  • To minimize suction, refer to the Suction Control section for more information on how to use

The Shark NV581 Series Brushroll does not spin.

Solution:

  • If the Brushroll Indicator Light on the floor nozzle turns red, the brush roll has stopped spinning. Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum, disconnect the nozzle, and remove the blockage before reconnecting and turning the vacuum back on.
  • If the brush roll indicator light repeatedly turns red on the carpet, try moving the suction release to a minimum.
  • With the power on, recline the handle, which will automatically turn on the brush roll.

The Shark NV581 Series turns off on its own or the indicator light flashes red.

Solution:

  • This vacuum is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If your vacuum
overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the suction motor off. Perform
the following steps to reset the thermostat:

    1. Turn the vacuum off and unplug it.
    2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters (see Maintenance section).
    3. Check for blockages in the hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
    4. Allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes.
    5. Plug in the vacuum and turn it on.
  • If the hose is not fully connected to the pod, it can cause a poor electrical connection
and the hose can come loose, turning the vacuum off.

    1. Turn the vacuum off and unplug it.
    2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters.
    3. Check for blockages in the hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
    4. Remove the cord from the cord hook so the hose latch can be seen and engaged.
    5. Ensure that the hose, wand, and handle are all clicked securely into place at all connection points:
      • Where hose meets back of pod (may require additional force; pull on hose to ensure the latch is fully engaged)
      • Where wand plugs into floor nozzle
      • Where the handle plugs into the wand
      • Plug in the vacuum and turn it on.
