What issue are you encountering?

Solution:

  • My vacuum has no or low suction
    • Plug in and turn on the vacuum.
  • My unit will not turn on or turn off on its own.
    • The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If for some reason your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Wait 60 minutes for the vacuum to cool; in the meantime follow the steps below.
  • The brush roll is not spinning
    • Ensure the unit is plugged in and is in setting II, Carpet mode. Step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle to engage the brush roll. Check the headlight indicator lights.
  • My vacuum is making an unusual noise
    • Turn off and unplug the unit.
    • Remove the dust cup by pulling up on the Dust Cup Release the Latch on the handle and lift the dust cup off the pod.
    • Holding the dust cup over a trash receptacle and press the empty-release latch on the bottom to empty dust and debris into the trash. Close the bottom lid.
    • Press the top empty release latch to access the dust screen and remove built-up debris as necessary.
    • Plug in the unit and turn it on without the dust cup on
  • There is a burning smell
    • If the smell is an out-of-the-box unit, This may be a new motor smell for the first couple of uses.
    • Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Inspect the power cord and plug for exposed wires, burns, or apparent damage.

The Shark NV480 Series is not picking up dirt. No suction or light suction

Solution:

  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and drying the filters before reinserting back into the vacuum.
  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check hose, hose connections, nozzles, and accessories for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Close the suction release on the handle to increase suction power

The Shark NV480 Series lifts area rugs

Solution:

  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brush roll and restart with the POWER button for suction-only cleaning.

The Shark NV480 Series Brushroll does not spin

Solution:

  • Pull the handle toward you and release the floor nozzle to engage the brush roll feature.
  • With the power on, turn the brush roll on by pressing the BRUSHROLL button.
  • Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum, disconnect the nozzle, and remove the blockage before reconnecting and turning the vacuum back on.

The Shark NV480 Series turns off on its own

Solution:

  • This vacuum cleaner is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat. If for some reason your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Should this occur, perform the following steps to restart the motor thermostat:
    1. Turn the unit off.
      2. Unplug the vacuum.
      3. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters.
      4. Check for blockages in the hose, accessories, and inlet openings.
      5. Allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes.
      6. Plug in the vacuum.
      7. Restart the unit using the POWER button.
