What issue are you encountering?

Solution:

  • My vacuum has no or low suction
    • Verify if the suction was low from first use or overtime
  • The brush roll is not spinning
    • Ensure the unit is plugged in and is in setting II, Carpet mode. Step on the floor nozzle and tilt the handle to engage the brush roll. Check the headlight indicator lights.
  • My vacuum will not charge
    • Ensure the sticker on the UI has been removed.
    • Note: When the unit is turned off, check the display screen. If it shows 100% with a yellow arrow on the right side, then the sticker is still on the screen.
    • Turn off the vacuum.
    • Plug the unit into the charger and plug the charger into the wall outlet. Verify the status of the LED lights.
    • Note: Ensure you are using the Shark charger that came with the vacuum. Using a different brand charger can harm your unit
  • Which LEDs are lighting up on the battery pack?
    • Battery LED is pulsing or solid white
      • This means the battery is fully charged.
      • Unplug the charger from the unit and turn on the unit.
    • Battery LED is pulsing green
      • The battery is partially charged. Unplug the unit and turn it on. If the unit doesn’t turn on, then it needs to finish charging. Charging can take up to 3.5 hours. Please allow the unit to fully charge until the battery LED is pulsing or solid white, then power the unit on.
    • Battery LED is pulsing yellow
      • The battery is partially charged. Unplug the unit and turn it on. If the unit doesn’t turn on, then it needs to finish charging. Charging can take up to 3.5 hours. Please allow the unit to fully charge until the battery LED is pulsing or solid white, then power the unit on
    • No lights
      • Plug the charger into a verified working outlet in another room.
    • Red or Amber Blinking
      • The battery has a temperature error (either too cold or too warm) and cannot charge until the temperature returns to normal. Leave the battery plugged in and it will start charging when the temperature moves into the appropriate range
  • There is a burning smell?
    • The vacuum may have a new motor smell the first couple of uses.
    • Turn off the vacuum. Disassemble the unit. Remove the handheld vacuum from the wand, and the wand from the floor nozzle.
    • Inspect the connection points on a handheld for debris, damage, or burns
  • My unit is making an unusual noise
    • Note: The lower power modes (ex: Bare Floor ECO or Deep Clean) are significantly less noisy. Boost mode specifically is noisy due to the high power. Remove the handheld vacuum from the wand. Turn on the handheld

  • My unit has a short runtime
    • To get the most runtime, ensure that the battery is fully charged before use.
    • The battery runtime is affected by the mode you are using. If you have more than one battery, it is recommended that you use each equally in use and charging.
    • Compare runtimes to the chart below:

  • There is a bad smell coming from the vacuum exhaust
    • First, check the dust cup as it may be full; empty the dust cup if needed.
  • My vacuum is not evacuating into the dock
    • Ensure that the dock is plugged into a verified working outlet.
    • Place the vacuum on the dock in a downward motion. Once properly attached, you will hear the chimes that come before evacuation begins.

Shark IZ500 Series Vacuum Cleaner Problems

Below are common issues and solutions for the Shark IZ500 Series:

The Shark IZ500 Series is not picking up debris. No suction or light suction. The filter icon on the handheld vacuum control panel is red.

Solution:

  •  Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and completely air-drying the filters before reinserting in the vacuum.
  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check floor nozzle for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Remove any string, carpet fibers, or hair that may be wrapped around the brush rolls.
  • Check the clogged access hose in the wand for any blockages and clear any debris.
  • Check connectors between handheld, wand, and floor nozzle for debris. Remove any dust or material in the connectors.
  • If the issue persists, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398

The Shark IZ500 Series lifts area rugs

Solution:

  • Make sure you are not engaging Boost mode as this can be too much suction for lighter rugs. Take care when vacuuming area rugs or rugs with delicately sewn edges.
  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brush rolls and press the power button to restart

The Shark IZ500 Series brushrolls do not spin.

Solution:

  • Immediately turn off the vacuum. Remove any blockages before turning the vacuum back on. Make sure the handheld vacuum is tilted back far enough for the brushrolls to engage. If the brushrolls still do not spin, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398.
  • If the floor nozzle has headlights and they are not illuminated, there is a connection issue between the handheld vacuum, wand, and nozzle. Try disconnecting and reattaching the pieces. If the headlights still do not illuminate, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398

The Shark IZ500 Series turns off on its own.

Solution:

  • There are several possible reasons for the vacuum turning off on its own, including blockages, battery issues, and overheating. If the vacuum turns off on its own, perform the following steps:
    1. Turn on the vacuum and check the battery indicator lights located on the handheld vacuum. If recharging is needed, make sure power is turned off before connecting to the charger.
    2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters (see Emptying the Dust Cup and Cleaning the Filters sections).
    3. Check wand, accessories, and inlet openings and remove any blockages.
    4. Allow unit and battery to cool for at least 45 minutes, until they return to room temperature.
    5. Press the power button to restart the vacuum. Make sure the charger is not plugged into the port on the handheld vacuum

The Shark IZ500 Series is emitting air that smells bad.

Solution:

  • Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup. Empty the dust cup after each use for optimal odor-neutralizer technology performance.
  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and air-drying the filters before reinstalling them.
  • Check to make sure the odor cartridge is installed in the dial and the dial is installed in the nozzle.
  • Check the odor-neutralizer technology dial on the nozzle to see what setting is enabled.
  • If odor neutralizer technology dial is at any setting from Low to High and the cartridge has been installed for 6 months or longer, consider replacing it.
  • If the odor cartridge is still emitting a scent but you dislike it, consider turning the intensity down, or reinstalling the dial in the nozzle without the cartridge.
  • If the odor-neutralizer technology cartridge is not emitting a scent, consider replacing it.
  • For all other issues, please call Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398.

  1. I have a Shark Model IZ540H. I fully charged the battery. I used it and when it fully discharged. I tried to re-charge, but when I plug the charger in to the battery – the green light will come on for a few seconds and then go out. It will not charge the battery. If you press the power button, the battery will flash red for a few seconds and then go out.

I bought another battery and it does the same thing.

Please help. I paid over $200 for this and it will not work. Buying batteries are very expensive.
