Shark IZ340H Series Troubleshooting

If you are having problems with your Shark IZ340H Series Vacuum Cleaner, you are not alone. Many Shark IZ340H Series owners experience issues with their vacuum cleaner from time to time, and it can be frustrating to deal with these problems.

I have problems with my Shark IZ340H Series

Reported Shark IZ340H Series Issues

What issue are you encountering?

Solution:

  • The brush roll is not spinning
    • Turn on the unit.
  • My vacuum has no or low suction
    • Verify if the suction was low from the first use or overtime
  • My vacuum will not turn on or charge
    • Turn the unit off. Plug the unit into the charger and plug the charger into the wall outlet.
      • Note:

        • 1. Unplug/Re-plug the unit, as the light turns off 5 min after reaching full charge. The LEDs will re-light for 20 sec if the charger is unplugged/plugged in or if the unit is turned on.
        • 2. The unit will not power on when plugged in

    • What LEDs are lighting up on the unit?
      • Normal Charging Lights

        • If only the light closest to the handle (Low Charge) is blinking slowly, that means the unit may have run out of battery in use.
        • The unit needs to be charged. Charging can take up to 3.5 hours
      • No Lights
        • Plug the charger into a verified working outlet in another room.
        • Unplug the unit from the charger. Turn the unit on.
      • 3 Solid Lights
        • This indicates that the battery is fully charged. Unplug the unit and turn the power switch to ON
      • LED 1 and 3 (outer two) are flashing LED 2 is off
        • The battery has a temperature error (either too cold or too warm), and cannot charge until the temperature returns to normal.
        • Leave the battery plugged in and it will start charging when the temperature moves into the appropriate range.
      • LED 2 and 3 (Bottom two) are flashing
        • This error means that the charger is the wrong voltage. Please be sure that you are using the SHARK charger that came with your unit. Other chargers may fit into the unit, but these could be the wrong voltage.
        • If you own other SHARK cordless products, the chargers may look similar but the voltages can be different.
  • My unit is making an unusual noise
    • Remove the handheld vacuum from the wand and turn it on
  • There is a burning smell
    • The vacuum may have a new motor smell the first couple of uses.
      1. Turn off the vacuum.
      2. Disassemble the unit. Remove the handheld vacuum from the wand, and the wand from the floor nozzle.
      3. Inspect the connection points on handheld, debris, damage, or burns. Remove any dust or debris.
  • Short Runtime
  • To get the most run time, ensure that the battery is fully charged before use. You can check this by plugging the unit into the charger. If all 3 lights are solidly illuminated, the battery is fully charged.
    • Note that it can take up to 3.5 hours to fully charge.
    • Compare against the runtimes listed.

    • How Long Does the Unit Run?
  • Static Shock
    • Static is a common phenomenon that occurs when the humidity is low (especially during winter). It is similar to what one might experience when rubbing socks on a carpet, pulling a wool sweater over the head, or brushing hair.
    • The vacuum is equipped with an ESD (electrostatic discharge) management system that consists of a plate in the handle and a grounding connection in the wand.
    • The connection between the wand and handvac may need to be cleaned.
    • Disconnect the wand from the handvac. Inspect the thin wire located along the side of the wand connection and extending to the inside of the wand. Clean the wire with a dry cloth.
    • Inspect the connection pad inside the handvac and likewise clean it with a dry cloth. Reassemble the handvac and wand.
    • Locate the ESD plate on the inside of the handle. Your hand needs to be in contact with the plate at all times for the system to function.
    • A humidifier may reduce the occurrence of static shocks.

Shark IZ340H Series Vacuum Cleaner Problems

Below are common issues and solutions for the Shark IZ340H Series:

The Shark IZ340H Series is not picking up debris. No suction or light suction. The nozzle light is red

Solution:

  •  Dust cup may be full; empty dust cup.
  • Check floor nozzle for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Remove any string, carpet fibers, or hair that may be wrapped around the brush roll.
  • Check the connection between the handheld vacuum and wand for blockages; clear blockages if required.
  • Check clog access in the wand for any blockages and clear any debris.
  • Check filters to see if they need cleaning. Follow instructions for rinsing and completely air-drying the filters before reinserting in the vacuum

The Shark IZ340H Series lifts area rugs

Solution:

  •  Make sure you are not engaging in Boost mode. Take care when vacuuming area rugs or rugs with delicately sewn edges.
  • Turn off the unit to disengage the brush roll and restart with the power/selector switch.

The Shark IZ340H Series Brushroll does not spin.

Solution:

  • Immediately turn off the vacuum. Remove any blockages before turning the vacuum back on. Make sure the handheld vacuum is tilted back far enough for the brush roll to engage while in use.
  • If the floor nozzle has headlights and they are not illuminated, there is a connection issue between the handheld vacuum, wand, and nozzle. Try disconnecting and reattaching the pieces

The Shark IZ340H Series turns off on its own.

Solution:

  • There are several possible reasons for the vacuum turning off on its own, including blockages, battery issues, and overheating. If the vacuum turns off on its own, perform the following steps:
    1. Turn on the vacuum and check the battery indicator lights located on the handheld vacuum. If recharging is needed, plug in while the power/selector switch is in the off position.
    2. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters (See Emptying the Dust Cup and Cleaning the Filters sections).
    3.  Check wand, accessories, and inlet openings and remove any blockages.
    4. Allow unit and battery to cool for at least 45 minutes, until they return to room temperature.
    5. Restart with the power/selector switch.

The Shark IZ340H Series Battery Indicator Lights on the handheld vacuum are flashing

Solution:

  • The bottom LED light is flashing (Fig. A): The battery needs to be charged.
  • Top and bottom LED lights are flashing (Fig. B): Battery temperature is not optimal, so charging is
    temporarily paused. Leave the battery plugged in and charging will resume soon.
  • If the top 2 or bottom 2 LED lights are flashing (Fig. C, Fig. D), call Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398
