Husqvarna ST 224 Snow Blower Problems

The Husqvarna ST 224 Does not start

Cause Solution
  • A fuel shut-off valve (if so equipped) in the OFF position
  • Turn the fuel shut-off valve to the OPEN position
  • The safety ignition key is not inserted
  • Insert the safety ignition key
  • Out of fuel
  • Fill the fuel tank with fresh, clean gasoline
  • Throttle in STOP position (or ON/OFF switch is OFF)
  • Move the throttle to the FAST position (or the ON/OFF switch to ON position)
  • Choke in OFF position
  • Move to FULL position
  • Primer not depressed
  • Prime as instructed in the Operation section of this manual
  • Engine is flooded
  • Wait a few minutes before restarting, DO NOT prime
  • The spark plug wire is disconnected
  • Connect the wire to the spark plug.
  • Bad spark plug
  • Replace spark plug
  • State fuel
  • Empty the fuel tank & carburetor, refill with fresh, clean gasoline
  • Water in fuel
  • Empty the fuel tank & carburetor, refill with fresh, clean gasoline

The Husqvarna ST 224 Loss of power

Cause Solution
  • Spark plug FULL position
  • Reconnect the spark plug wire
  • Throwing too much snow
  • Reduce the speed and width of the swath
  • The fuel tank cap is covered with ice or snow
  • Remove ice and snow on and around fuel tank cap
  • Dirty or clogged muffler
  • Clean or replace muffler

The Husqvarna ST 224 Engine idles or runs roughly

Cause Solution
  • A fuel shut-off valve (if so equipped) in the OFF position
  • Move the choke to the OFF position
  • Blockage in the fuel line
  • Clean fuel line
  • Stale fuel
  • Empty the fuel tank & carburetor, and refill with fresh, clean gasoline
  • Water in fuel
  • Empty the fuel tank & carburetor, and refill with fresh, clean gasoline
  • The carburetor is in need of adjustment or overhaul
  • Contact an authorized service center/department

The Husqvarna ST 224 Excessive vibration

Cause Solution
  • Loose parts or damaged augers or impeller
  • Tighten all fasteners. Replace damaged parts. IF vibration remains contact an authorized service center/department

The Husqvarna ST 224 Recoil starter is hard to pull

Cause Solution
  • Frozen recoil starter
  • See “IF RECOIL STARTER HAS FROZEN” in the Operation section of this manual

The Husqvarna ST 224 Loss of traction drive/slowing of drive speed

Cause Solution
  • The drive belt is worn
  • Check/reinstall the drive belt
  • The drive belt is off of the pulley
  • Check/replace the drive belt
  • The friction/impeller jammed
  • Contact an authorized Sears service center/department.

The Husqvarna ST 224 Loss of snow discharge or slowing of snow discharge

Cause Solution
  • The Auger belt is off of the pulley
  • Check/reinstall the auger belt
  • Auger belt is worn
  • Check/replace the auger belt
  • Clogged discharge chute
  • Clean snow chute
  • Augers/impeller jammed
  • Remove debris or foreign object from augers/impeller

The Husqvarna ST 224 Lights not On

Cause Solution
  • Motor not running
  • Start engine
  • Loose wire connection
  • Check wire connections at the engine and light.
  • LED burnt out
  • Replace the LED light module. (Individual LEDs are not replaceable)
