Zodiac Pool Cleaner Troubleshooting

Maintaining a swimming pool can be a challenge, and your Zodiac pool cleaner is a crucial tool in keeping your pool water sparkling clean. These devices, whether suction side or robotic, are designed to efficiently remove debris and dirt, ensuring a pleasant swimming experience.

When your Zodiac pool cleaner encounters issues, troubleshooting can help you resolve common problems and keep the cleaner running smoothly. From understanding the basic functionality to identifying and addressing specific malfunctions, knowing how to troubleshoot effectively will save you time and effort.

Check Filter Canister

To keep your Zodiac pool cleaner running efficiently, regularly check the filter canister. A clogged canister can restrict water flow, impacting the cleaner’s performance.

Remove the canister from the cleaner and open it up. Look for debris, leaves, or dirt. Rinse the canister thoroughly with a hose to remove any buildup.

After cleaning, reassemble the canister and ensure it’s securely attached to the cleaner. Regular checks help maintain optimal performance and prevent potential issues.

Inspect Hose for Leaks

Start by removing the hose from the pool. Carefully examine its length for any visible cracks or punctures. Even small holes can significantly affect the cleaner’s performance.

Listen for any hissing sounds, which might indicate air leaks. You can also submerge sections of the hose in water to check for bubbles. Bubbles signify a leak that needs repairing.

If you identify a leak, replace the damaged section. For minor issues, using waterproof tape can be a temporary fix. Ensure the hose is securely connected to the cleaner and pump. Reapply a gentle test after any repairs to confirm the efficacy of your work.

Clean Pool Cleaner Brushes

Regularly cleaning the brushes of your Zodiac pool cleaner ensures optimal performance. To start, remove the cleaner from the pool and disconnect it from the power source. Check for any debris like leaves or dirt caught in the brushes.

Use a soft brush or cloth to gently scrub off any build-up. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they can damage the brushes. Rinse with clean water to remove any remaining dirt.

Inspect the brushes for signs of wear or damage. If the bristles are worn down or broken, it’s time to replace them. Proper maintenance of the brushes will extend the life of your pool cleaner and keep your pool sparkling clean.

Adjust the Flow Regulator

To adjust the flow regulator on your Zodiac pool cleaner, locate the valve, which controls the water flow. The valve will typically have a handle that you can pull to set different levels.

Start by checking the factory setting to see if it’s fitting your pool’s needs. If adjustments are needed, move the handle up or down to increase or decrease the flow.

Watch the cleaner’s performance closely after each adjustment. If the cleaner moves too fast or climbs above the water level, lower the flow. Conversely, if it’s moving too slow or not climbing the pool walls, increase the flow.

Fine-tuning the flow ensures optimal cleaner performance, helping maintain a spotless and inviting pool.

Check Diaphragm for Damage

To ensure your Zodiac pool cleaner works effectively, check the diaphragm for any signs of damage or wear. A damaged diaphragm can hinder the cleaner’s movement and performance.

First, disconnect the cleaner from the pool system. Remove the diaphragm from the body of the cleaner. Carefully inspect it for tears, holes, or cracks.

If you find any damage, replace the diaphragm immediately. Maintaining an intact and flexible diaphragm is crucial for optimal performance. Regular checks and timely replacements can prevent more significant issues down the road.

Inspect Drive Belts

Start by examining the drive belts for dirt or debris. Debris can often cause the pool cleaner to malfunction. If you find any, clean the belts thoroughly to ensure smooth operation.

Next, look for visible signs of wear and tear on the drive belts. Check for cracks, brittleness, or stretching. If the belts appear damaged, you’ll need to replace them to restore the cleaner’s functionality.

Lastly, ensure the drive belts are properly aligned. Misaligned belts can cause the cleaner to move erratically. Adjust them carefully so they fit snugly in their tracks.

Ensure Proper Connection to Skimmer

To start, make sure the vacuum hose is securely attached to the skimmer. A loose connection can reduce suction power.

Next, check the Flowkeeper Valve. It should be set correctly to ensure the right flow rate. This is usually pre-set at the factory, but you can adjust it if needed.

If there’s an issue with the connection, inspect the hose for any kinks or blockages. These can disrupt water flow and reduce cleaning efficiency.

Finally, confirm the skimmer basket is clean. A clogged basket can impede water flow and affect the cleaner’s performance. Clean it regularly to maintain optimal operation.

Verify Wheel Operation

To ensure your Zodiac pool cleaner is operating efficiently, start by checking the wheel rotation speed.

Turn on the pool filter pump and observe the cleaner’s wheels. If the wheels aren’t spinning or are moving very slowly, this could indicate a problem with water flow.

Manually turn the wheels to check for any obstructions or debris.

Additionally, timing the wheel rotations can help you determine if the cleaner is functioning correctly. If the rotations are slow, you might need to adjust the flow rate using the valve.

Ensure the wheels and gears aren’t worn out or damaged. Replace any worn-out parts to maintain optimal performance. If the cleaner stalls frequently, disconnect the control box for 20 seconds and then reconnect it to reset the system.

Regular maintenance of wheel operation can prevent larger issues and prolong the life of your pool cleaner.

Test Water Pressure

Ensuring your Zodiac pool cleaner gets the right water pressure is crucial for its optimal performance. Start by turning off the cleaner and disconnecting it from the pool. Use a hose to check the water flow rate and make sure it’s within the recommended range for your specific model.

If you don’t have a flow rate tester, you can usually find one at your local pool supply store. Attach the tester to the hose and measure the water pressure. Low pressure might be caused by clogged filters, blocked hoses, or an issue with the pool pump. Address these issues to restore proper pressure.

High water pressure is also problematic and can damage your cleaner. If the pressure is too high, adjust the pool pump settings or use a pressure reducing valve. Keeping the water pressure within the correct range ensures your Zodiac pool cleaner runs smoothly and effectively.

Clean the Impeller

To clean the impeller of your Zodiac pool cleaner, start by disconnecting the cleaner from its power source. Safety is paramount, so ensure the device is completely turned off before proceeding.

Next, locate the impeller housing. This may require you to remove a few screws or clips. Once accessed, carefully take out the impeller.

Check the impeller and housing for any debris, dirt, or obstructions. Use a soft brush or clean cloth to gently remove any particles. This helps maintain optimal performance and longevity.

After cleaning, reassemble the impeller housing. Ensure all parts are securely in place before reconnecting the cleaner to its power source. Regular impeller cleaning can prevent many common issues with Zodiac pool cleaners.

I have an mx6 and am very happy with it . I have replaced the interior parts with the tune up kit. The problem lies in that the cleaner creates air into the filtration system. Without the robot connected the system doesn’t produce air . I have checked the hoses to the cleaner no sucking . I have weighted the hose to be under water still the air persists. Therefore it has to be the MX6. Do the cleaning propellers create air in H2O? Frustrating.

The mx8 is working fine but every time the pool pump shuts down after a normal run the relief valve on the snorkel that fits into the skimmer hole releases and when the next run starts there is no suction on the hose until you push it closed. What is going on?

Zodiac MX8 Clicking noise

I have had my MX8 for 9 years and replaced the gearboxes and other parts several times, including all bearings and the 2 scrubbers just a few months ago.

I have just installed all of the parts from the “tune up kit” but still I can hear a clicking noise from the MX8 as I hold it just under water. If I drop it to the pool floor, then the scrubbers rotate just once and then need a finger push to get them past the cause of the click and then to rotate just once more.

Having replaced everything only recently, I am stuck as to the cause of the problem.

Any thoughts please?

Pool Cleaner > Zodiac > Zodiac Baracuda T5 Duo

I just installed Zodiac T5 Duo and it always gets stuck when starts climbing between floor that is at the angle and the vertical wall. It just stays there forever.
I checked the preassure using provided gouge and it is at 3.
The weight is installed at the end of section 1.
Previously I had Zodiac G3 that worked without problems.
What can I adjust to make sure that my T5 Duo does not get stuck?
