Pool Booster Pump Troubleshooting

If you are having problems with your Pool Booster Pump, you are not alone. Many Pool Booster Pump owners experience issues with their pool booster pump from time to time, and it can be frustrating to deal with these problems.

I have problems with my Pool Booster Pump
  1. My pump ran fine for about 18 months. Now suddenly it will not turn on. Makes zero noise when the relay powers it up. I have 240V at the pump, wiring looks great, matches the Polaris manual exactly. I have replaced the capacitor. Pump & impeller both spin freely. I don’t know what else it could be.

  2. The Polaris, PB4-60 Is not running, and it is starting to get hot to the touch. it all started after a hard freeze.

  3. Water jet out from pump housing! it is only less than 2 yrs old. I really double about the quality of the pump!

  4. My Polaris booster PB4 60 is not propelling the Sport 3900. I doesn’t move at all. I booster was replaced a few years ago and I have replaced the 3900 three times in 3 years (One was purchased at Leslies, One was free from Polaris and the 3rd was purchase from another pool owner, lightly used). Now I rebuilt the 3rd 3900 with a kit yesterday and noticed that where the pressure side hose plugs in I disconnected the hose and there is quite a bit of sputtering. Not constant but intermittent. Sounds like maybe air is getting in somewhere? The PCV that comes from the PB4 60 to the pool vibrates/shudders as well. I lead me to believe the problem is at or before the PPB4 60 since it is only a few feet from the pump before it even goes into the ground. The pump sounds normal. I wish I had my old 280 Polaris, used one for 10 years (rebuilt once ), never an issue. Any thoughts?

  5. Possibly the motor bearings.

It would be better buying a whole new one rather than attempting to rebuild it and run into others issues when putting it back together.

  6. PB4-60 sounds like a jet engine running.

Does it need a new seal kit or is the complete motor/pump bad?

  7. I have a Polaris PB4-60 Booster pump for my Polaris 280, and recently I’ve been experiencing a loud noise coming from the pump. I’m not sure what might be causing it, and I’m wondering if it’s something that can be easily repaired or if it would be better to invest in a new PB4-60 pump altogether.

I would appreciate any insights or advice from fellow pool owners who may have encountered a similar issue with their booster pumps. Has anyone successfully resolved a noisy pump through repairs? Or is it more cost-effective and efficient to purchase a new pump? Your input and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
