How to Diagnose and Repair a Hayward Navigator Pro

This guide will help you identify and resolve issues with your Hayward Navigator Pro Pool Cleaner.

What Should I Do If the Hayward Navigator Pro Has Slow or No Forward Movement?

If your Hayward Navigator Pro exhibits slow or no forward movement, first use the Flow Gauge to check water flow and adjust according to Step 5 in the manual. If there’s a blockage in the cleaner throat, clear it. Check for worn shoes and wings and replace them if necessary. If you suspect the cleaner model is not suitable for your application, contact customer support at 1300 POOLS 1.

How to Fix the Hayward Navigator Pro Cleaner When It Fails to Climb Vertical Walls in a Gunite/Concrete Pool?

To address climbing issues in a gunite or concrete pool, ensure you have the proper shoes for the application by calling 1300 POOLS 1. Confirm proper water flow with the Flow Gauge and adjust as needed. Clear any blockages in the cleaner throat and replace worn shoes and wings. If the hose is too short, add additional sections as instructed. Adjust the tension on the rear flap to setting III if necessary.

What to Do If the Hayward Navigator Pro Cleaner Climbs to the Water Surface and Sucks Air?

If the cleaner is climbing to the water surface and sucking air, indicating a steering failure, clean the rear screen and check that the cone gear is free and rotates smoothly. Also, inspect the medium turbine and spindle gear assemblies for any malfunctions.

How to Resolve the Issue of the Hayward Navigator Pro Cleaner Head “Floating”?

If the cleaner head “floats,” ensure it is heavier than water and not supposed to float. Remove all air from the cleaner head, stop air from entering the pool through the return lines, and tug the hose to release air bubbles. If the cleaner head and hose are covered with fine bubbles, repeat the process. Adjust the return outlets to prevent water flow from interfering with the cleaner head and hose.

How to Fix the Hayward Navigator Pro Cleaner When It Sticks at Steps, Corners, etc.?

When the cleaner gets stuck at steps or corners, check the water flow with the Flow Gauge and adjust accordingly. Replace worn shoes and wings if they’re contributing to the issue. If the hose is too short, consider adding more sections. For steering failures, clean the rear screen, ensure the cone gear is free and rotates smoothly, and troubleshoot the steering program. Clean, repair, or replace the gearbox as needed. Check the pod/A-frame connection and replace if necessary—do not attempt to retighten loose pods. Also, inspect the medium turbine and spindle gear assemblies.
