How to Diagnose and Repair a Hayward Aquanaut 250

This guide will help you identify and resolve issues with your Hayward Aquanaut 250 Pool Cleaner.

Why Doesn’t My Hayward Aquanaut 250 Move or Why Is It Moving Too Slowly?

If your Hayward Aquanaut 250 isn’t moving or is moving slowly, start by checking the wheel RPM and looking for any obstructions within the cleaner. Ensure the pump is on and set to the correct speed. Check for priming issues or leaks in the system, which may present as bubbles from the return jets. If the pump impeller is blocked or the filter needs backwashing, address these issues promptly. Also, verify that the turbine vanes are oriented correctly.

What Should I Do If the Hayward Aquanaut 250’s Right Wheel Won’t Turn?

An immobile right wheel on the Hayward Aquanaut 250 usually indicates an obstruction within the cleaner. Inspect and clear any debris that could be causing the issue.

How Can I Fix the Hayward Aquanaut 250’s Right Wheel Skipping Teeth?

If the right wheel skips teeth when rotated forward, this could be a sign that the wheel hub or right drive gear is worn or damaged and may require replacement.

How to Straighten Out Looped Hoses on the Hayward Aquanaut 250?

For hoses that are looped, lay them out in the sun to eliminate the coiling. Additionally, cleaning the swivel on the cleaner head under a tap can help, as can ensuring the leaf canister is correctly positioned and floating.

Why Does My Hayward Aquanaut 250 Turn in Circles Instead of Moving Straight?

Turning in circles may be due to wear or damage to the wheel hub, large drive gear, steering slide assembly, or right drive gear. Inspect these parts for damage and replace as necessary.

How Do I Ensure the Hayward Aquanaut 250 Cleans the Entire Pool?

To ensure full pool coverage, check that the hose is long enough, the floats are positioned correctly (0.5 to 0.63 meters from the cleaner head), and the Hose Cone Swivel is clean. Adjust the return fittings to avoid pushing the cleaner hoses away.

What Causes the Hayward Aquanaut 250 to Climb Walls Excessively or Not Climb at All?

Excessive wall climbing or failure to climb can be caused by worn tire treads and skirts, incorrect suction or flow rates, or not using the Bypass Valve when hooked up in the skimmer. Adjust the auto skim plate or vac plate as needed.

How Do I Keep the Hoses From Disconnecting From the Skimmer on the Hayward Aquanaut 250?

Ensure the hose cone is properly secured in the inlet and address any air leaks that could cause the hoses to pop out when the pump turns off.

What to Do About Wobbly Wheels on the Hayward Aquanaut 250?

Wobbly wheels typically indicate that the bearings are worn and need to be replaced.

How to Fix the Hayward Aquanaut 250 Falling on Its Side?

If the cleaner falls to its side and has trouble recovering, check the position or presence of the floats, the hose length, and the influence of return fittings on the cleaner’s stability. Also, verify the wheel RPM.

What to Do If the Hayward Aquanaut 250’s Turbine Vanes or Blades Pop Out?

If the turbine vanes or blades come out of the turbine, make sure they are installed correctly with the large oval side in the turbine hub. Check the turbine hub for wear and replace if necessary.
