If you are having problems with your Ariens Compact 920032 Snow Blower, you are not alone. Many Ariens Compact 920032 owners experience issues with their snow blower from time to time, and it can be frustrating to deal with these problems.
The engine is turned off (Models 920025, 920029, 920030, 920032)
Turn the engine key to run position or insert the key. See Engine Key on page 9.
The engine switch is in the stop position (Model 920033)
Push the engine switch to the run position. See Engine Key And Run /Stop Switch on page 9.
The engine key is not in unit
Insert key. See Engine Key on page 9 and Engine Key And Run /Stop Switch on page 10.
Choke is off
Turn the choke control knob to the on position. See Choke Control Knob on page 9.
The fuel valve is closed.
Open valve. See Fuel Valve on page 9.
The fuel tank is empty.
Fill the tank with fuel. See Before Operating Unit on page 11.
The engine is not primed
If the engine is cold, press the primer bulb three times and start the engine. Do not prime a warm engine. See Primer Bulb on page 9.
The ignition switch starter circuit is not functioning.
See your dealer for repair.
Build up of dirt and residue around governor/carburetor
Clean the area around the governor/carburetor. See the service manual for your unit
The spark plug wire is disconnected.
Connect the spark plug. Refer to the engine manual
Spark plug is faulty.
Replace the spark plug. Refer to the engine manual
Excessive fuel in engine cylinder (flooded).
Turn the choke control knob to the off position and reattempt starting. See Start The Engine on page 11.
Engine is faulty
See your Ariens dealer or authorized engine manufacturer’s service center
The Ariens Compact 920032 Engine starts hard or runs poorly
Cause
Solution
The fuel mixture is too rich
Turn the engine key to run position or insert the key. See Engine Key on page 9.
The spark plug is faulty, fouled or incorrectly gapped
Clean and correctly set spark plug gap (refer to engine manual) or see your Ariens dealer
The fuel cap vent is blocked
Install a new fuel cap
The Ariens Compact 920032 Engine stops
Cause
Solution
The fuel tank is empty
Fill tank with fuel. See Before Operating Unit on page 11.
The fuel valve is closed
Open valve. See Fuel Valve on page 9.
Obstruction in auger or impeller
Stop engine, remove key and wait for all moving parts to stop. Check for and remove obstruction before restarting
Contaminated fuel supply
Replace with clean fuel
Spark plug is faulty
Replace or clean spark plug. Refer to engine manual.
Fuel cap vent is blocked
Install new fuel cap
The Ariens Compact 920032 Unit runs briefly and then stops.
Cause
Solution
A build-up of fumes in the fuel tank is creating too much pressure in the fuel tank
Slowly loosen the fuel tank cap
The Ariens Compact 920032 Unit does not drive forward or in reverse.

Solution
A friction disc is worn
Replace friction disc. Refer to the service manual for your unit
The traction drive cable is not adjusted correctly.
Remove slack from the cable. See Adjust Traction Drive Clutch on page 23.
The traction belt is not functioning
Repair or replace the traction drive belt. Refer to the service manual for your unit
The speed selector is not adjusted correctly
Adjust the speed selector. See Adjust Speed Selector Lever on page 20.
Axle lock pins are set to allow both wheels to spin freely (Models 920025, 920030, 920033).
Position one or both axle lock pins in the traction position. See Set Axle Lock Pin on page 13.
The Ariens Compact 920032 Unit does not throw snow or throws it poorly

Solution
Shear bolts are broken
See Replace Shear bolts on page 19.
The attachment clutch/brake is not adjusted correctly
See Adjust Attachment Clutch & Brake on page 21.
Impeller is frozen in place
Move the unit to a warm place to thaw
Ice or debris is obstructing the auger
Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for the moving parts to stop. Check for and remove obstruction before restarting
The discharge chute is clogged with snow
Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all moving parts to stop and for the hot parts to cool. Clean discharge chute and auger housing with clean-out tool. DO NOT use your hands
The Auger drive belt is slipping, worn, or damaged
Adjust or replace the auger drive belt. Refer to the service manual for your unit
The Auger drive belt is loose or damaged
Replace the belt or adjust the auger control cable. Refer to the service manual for your unit.
The Ariens Compact 920032 Excessive snow is left behind
Cause
Solution
Scraper blade is worn or damaged.
Adjust when worn and replace when damaged or when blade has been adjusted down as far as possible and does not touch ground or clear correctly. See Adjust Scraper Blade on page 18.
The Ariens Compact 920032 Small rubber beads collect in frame.
Cause
Solution
Friction disc wear.
This is normal friction disc wear and no correction is needed unless there are chunks or large pieces of rubber collecting in frame. If repair is needed, refer to the service manual for your unit.
